“It seems like a lot,” regarding Flock access in Madison County said Deputy Sheriff Van Duncan. There were reports of officers accessing the 12 Flock license plate camera readers set up around in the county 1,200 times in the past few months.
Van Duncan said that after an audit search, they found the system was accessed 870 times and about 40% of those instances related to an ongoing homicide investigation.
He also showed how the Flock system is used and what parts of the vehicle are shown.

The sheriff’s office was going to sign the final Flock contract June 12, but will now sign it sometime next week due to paperwork needed from Flock.
Van Duncan said he would immediately make that available to the public.
Other questions raised by the community included facial recognition concerns and potential abuse by officers.
Van Duncan also wanted to clarify that the policy comes from Flock and is specific to, and obeys, NC general statutes.
