The Madison High School “Athlete of the Week” is Alex Morales-Valdez!
He kicked a 45.8-yard average with 6 punts for 275 yards, including a 69-yard punt, plus a 1-for-1 kick and 3 punts inside the 20 during the Madison vs. Polk game Oct. 9.
“That’s impressive. He”s like a collegiate-level punter,” said MHS Head Football Coach Ronald Tipton.
“He kicks the ball all the way to the other end of the field somehow. He takes us out of a very bad offensive situation and puts it deep into the other team’s territory.”
Alex is a senior at Madison Early College High School. He is the varsity football kicker while also playing men’s soccer during the same fall season.
“Alex is responsible for getting himself where he is today. I just helped by guiding him to get here,” said MHS Kicking Coach Jamie Lounsbury, a MHS ‘98 grad, former Patriots kicker and Army OIF veteran.
Alex said, “I want to thank everyone that has helped me be the player I am today, especially Coach Lounsbury, and I remind myself everyday that I am where I am because I have God by my side.”
