Coy Phillips trial progress - Part 3

Sarah Scully, Anchor/Reporter

I spoke to the Clerk of Court’s office this afternoon and former Madison County Chief Deputy Coy Phillips will be in Madison County’s temporary courthouse July 6 via televised appearance from Avery County jail to determine if he has hired a lawyer, will have a court-appointed attorney or will represent himself.

Once that decision is made, further appearances with the Superior Court can be scheduled.

Since yesterday’s story aired, please see the above link, I have had 3 more former sheriff’s office employees contact me with information. I am talking with all 4 anonymous reputable sources independently and hope to have more information for you soon. I would like to have at least 3 sources corroborate each incident before reporting those details.
